OSSTF/FEESO is looking for proposals for practical, stand-alone, progressive, classroom-ready lessons/unit plans of 4 to 5 lessons in length on social issues such as (but not limited to) globalization, world peace, anti-discrimination, environmental issues, universal child care, sexual harassment, aboriginal issues, poverty etc. These units must: - be original material;
- not have been previously published or adapted from existing published material, nor directly include material from other copyrighted sources (note: copyrighted material, such as articles or photographs, may be referenced in the unit but not directly included without copyright permission);
- not have been developed for a board or on board time;
- have been field-tested and proven effective in providing credible alternatives or supplements to fill gaps in existing curriculum.
OSSTF/FEESO will pay an honorarium of $1000 per published unit to the member(s) who submitted it upon completion thereby giving OSSTF/FEESO the publishing rights to the unit. Your proposal should be submitted on the attached form and must include the following:
the name and contact information of the member(s) submitting the proposal; the title of the socially-based curriculum unit; a 200 word executive summary which describes briefly the unit and the course name and course code to which it applies; a brief description of how and when the unit was field tested and how successful it was; a letter of reference from an OSSTF/FEESO colleague who can speak to the unit’s success and impact on students.
Proposals which focus on issues or for courses not already covered by the units selected in previous years are preferred. See http://www.osstf.on.ca/SBCU for units previously submitted.
