May 2 Federal Election Important Information

Voting can be done in person or by mail to your local Elections Canada returning office, no later than 6:00 pm on Tuesday, April 26.

Visit http://www.elections.ca/scripts/Pss/finded.aspx, and enter your postal code to find your electoral district. On the right-hand sidebar, click “Where do I vote?” under the “Voting Process” headline. Your local Elections Canada office address, contact information, and daily hours will be shown on the right side of the page.

Vote in the Advance Polls! Advance polls will be conducted on Friday, April 22, Saturday, April 23 and Monday, April 25. Most polls will be open from 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm on those days.

Follow the same instructions as above to find your electoral district, and where you can vote. The advance poll information will be in the middle of the page, below the information about Election Day.

What do I need to bring to vote? Elections Canada gives three options for proving your identity and address:

1. Show one original piece of ID with your photo, name and address, issued by a government agency (e.g. a driver’s license.) More examples here: http://www.elections.ca/content.aspx?section=vot&dir=ids&document=index&lang=e#one

2. Show two original pieces of authorized ID – both must have your name, and one must also have your address (e.g. a health card and a hydro bill). More examples here: http://www.elections.ca/content.aspx?section=vot&dir=ids&document=index&lang=e#two

3. Take an oath and have an elector who knows you vouch for you. The person must have authorized ID and be from the same polling divisions. This person can only vouch for one other person (e.g. a neighbour or a roommate). More information here: http://www.elections.ca/content.aspx?section=vot&dir=ids&document=index&lang=e#three
