4 Principles to Dismantle Anti-Black Racism in D16 T/OT

Acknowledgement:

  • Anti-Black racism, and systemic barriers are experienced by Black teachers, students and communities, which can often result in racial trauma.

  • We must recognize and respect the voices of Black teachers and students, along with their lived experiences of anti-Black racism.

Awareness:

  • Providing practical information, resources and tools in broadening our learning to dismantle anti-Black racism, which is deeply embedded in our Canadian institutions, policies and practices.

Action:

  • Supporting D16 by providing strategies and proactive steps to disrupt systemic barriers and racial disparities. Public and community advocacy is also part of this action.

Accountability:

  • Being transparent, supportive and protective of our  Black educators and students, as well as their allies. Accountability also requires engagement, communication, commitment and feedback.
