Town Hall on Hybrid Education
On Tuesday March 16 (from 6:30-7:30 PM) D19 Political Action Committee will be hosting a Virtual Town Hall on Hybrid Learning. This is a community based event which will include 4 speakers with a wide range of insight into the issues with Hybrid Learning. The speakers are:
Beyhan Farhadi - is a postdoctoral researcher at the Faculty of Education at York University, a secondary teacher with the Toronto District School Board, a parent to two elementary-aged children, and an advocate for a fully-funded public education system. Her research focuses on educational policy, online learning and equity in secondary schools.
Romana Siddiqui - including being involved with the Ontario Parents Action Network, Peel Families for Public Education, OntarioSAFE, Muslim Parents of Peel Schools, and most recently as Co-chair of the Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) for the Peel District School Board.
Jason Bradshaw - “A 14 year secondary science educator in the PDSB with firsthand experience teaching in person, fully online, and under the current hybrid model.”
Sam Sarjeant a grade 12 student at a PDSB SS.
The purpose of the event is to raise community awareness of the impact that the Hybrid model is having on all members of the learning community. I encourage you to sign up for the event but to also to invite other parents, educators or students to the event. Each speaker will provide their insights on Hybrid learning followed by a question and answer period afterwards.
I often hear from other teachers that the problems with Hybrid education are not understood outside of the school walls and this is a great opportunity to spread the word. It is also very important for all the stakeholders - students, parents, teachers, education workers to work together to protect public education. Like it or not there is another Provincial election on the horizon and we need to prepare.
